2011 Hudson Valley Pet Palooza & Dog Walk
May's Pet Palooza was a huge success! The money raised from the event is used to support the following three non-profit organizations: P.A.N.T., Russell Refuge, Inc., and American Brittany Rescue.
This year MHKA held our RDO (Responsible Dog Owners) Day at the Pet Palooza, partnering with the Shawangunk Kennel Club. Our booth featured brochures from the AKC and was staffed by club members. The number one question people wanted an answer to was how to enter AKC performance events with mixed breed dogs. We also answered questions about the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test, offered for free that afternoon. Four people signed up to take the test. It was great to see such well behaved dogs showing their stuff.
The other event our booth featured was “Meet The Breeds”. We featured different breeds all day, presenting some not commonly seen, including Clumber Spaniels, Pomeranian, Long Haired Chihuahua, Papillon, Cardigan Welsh Corgi, Dalmatians, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Samoyeds, English Setter, Scottish Deerhounds, Icelandic Sheep Dog, Tibetan Spaniels, Ibizans, and one Great Dane. Our dogs were much admired, and they enjoyed getting out and socializing.
The Pet Palooza event was a lot of fun, with over seventy vendors, demonstrations throughout the day and contests. If you have a well-behaved dog and live in the Hudson Valley I suggest you put it on your calendar for next year. You and your best friend will have a blast. Big thanks to our members and guest volunteers, especially Brian Curran, club president Mary Kelly, Melissa Carlin, Rob Waters, Garrett O'Dell, Patti Colman, Judi Graham, Bev Delaney, Pam Palmer, Gail Pace, Danielle Sand, Sharon Lyons, Gayle Bontecou, Charlotte Nisbet, Ronnie Schroeder, Mary Skovan, Diane Arbeit and Richard Zelig and Drew, Elizabeth and Donna McClain. And thank you to our CGC evaluator, Candice from Positive Paws. (Photos: Elizabeth D. McClain)
